Vettes to Vets president Karen Blandini, with team members Jill Pais and Tony Marino, presented VA Bedford Healthcare System director Joan Clifford with a check for $17,000 today here.
The annual Vettes to Vets fundraiser was canceled this year due to the pandemic, but even though the Corvettes couldn’t run, participants managed to raise funds by selling a special edition pin to support VA Bedford’s Veterans.
According to Blandini, the event began as a simple idea, to bring a few Corvettes to the hospital for Veterans to view.
“We had about 25 Corvettes that first event,” Blandini said. “The following year, it grew to about 50 Corvettes, and the third year, 102 Corvettes!”
The annual Vettes to Vets event at VA Bedford is typically held on Gold Star Mother’s Day each year and is now a full weekend event with Corvettes from New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and even Canada. More than 700 Corvettes took part in the 2019 event.
Event participants are dedicated to bringing awareness to the needs of all Veterans.
“The Corvette community has embraced this event as their own and is proud to be able to honor our Veterans,” Blandini said. “When asked ‘Why we do it,’ the answer is simple. It’s the right thing to do.”
A limited number of special edition pins is still available. Visit the Vettes to Vets Facebook page for details.
