Victor Garofalo is Headed to Dracut as Finance Director/Town Accountant

The town of Bedford Finance Director has been named finance director/town accountant for the town of Dracut.

Victor Garofalo, who also is treasurer and collector, informed Town Manager Sarah Stanton last week of his resignation, effective Jan. 8. Garofalo has been on the Finance Department staff since 2003; he succeeded Peter Naum as director in 2011.

“I’m thankful for his service to the community,” Stanton said. “I am sad to see him leave and wish him the very best in his new opportunity.”

“Victor has been with the town for many years and he has worked tirelessly overseeing the financial operations and driving our ability to provide the services the town desires,” stated Select Board Chair Ed Pierce. Finance Committee Chair Ben Thomas also thanked Garofalo for “your many years of working for the town. It has been a pleasure to work with Victor.”

Stanton said she has an interim finance director in mind. She plans to begin advertising for the permanent position after Christmas in publications that are tailored to opportunities in town government, such as the Massachusetts Municipal Association newsletter.

The position in Dracut has been vacant since last summer when Ann M. Vandal was promoted to town manager.

“I want to thank (former Town Manager) Rick Reed and Peter Naum for giving me the opportunity 17 years ago to work for the town of Bedford,” Garofalo said. “I also want to thank the finance staff, past and present, for everything they did for the town.”
