BHS Basketball Updates

Highlights from recent games:

The Bedford High School girls basketball team crushed Weston Sunday, 45-25, to advance to the second round of the post-season single-elimination Dual County League tournament. Their next opponent will be Wayland.

Meanwhile, the boys’ team travels to Boston Latin School Tuesday for a 4 p.m. contest in their version of the league tournament.

As she has all season long, junior Katherine Vaughan led the Bedford girls with 15 points and seven rebounds. She also blocked three Weston shot attempts. Sophomore Sydney Poor added 14 points and five boards. She also registered a couple of steals.

The boys concluded their regular season with consecutive wins over the Waltham Hawks. The 5-7 record “represents a big improvement from the past two seasons,” said Coach Ryan Kilian. “We received great contributions and leadership, from a lot of different players this season and the program is in great shape, with 10 returning varsity players and a strong sub-varsity group.”

Imani Jones helped pace Friday’s 47-38 win—appropriately on Senior Night—with 10 points and eight rebounds. Junior Max Alper scored 11 points to go with seven rebounds. Besides Jones, the other seniors honored Friday were Co-Captains Matt Mulligan and Justin Griffiths, who arrived late in the season as a transfer student.

Last Tuesday, the Bucs prevailed at Waltham 52-46, after dropping their previous four games to league powers Boston Latin and Cambridge Rindge and Latin. The Bucs were led by juniors Matt Forman (11 points), Alper, and Matt Kazangian, who all made big plays throughout the game.
