Kelly Resigns, Town Seeking Conservation Administrator

February 19, 2021

Bedford’s fledgling conservation administrator has resigned after less than four months to accept another position with more responsibility.

Rachel Kelly, who began here in October, is now director of planning and development in Winthrop, a new position.

Town Manager Sarah Stanton said the Bedford job was immediately advertised, and she is already interviewing candidates. An outside engineering firm has been hired to serve in an interim capacity.

“My decision to leave is strictly professionally based and was not a result of any of my experiences being the conservation administrator,” Kelly said in her letter of resignation. She noted that the code enforcement staff is “organized, dedicated, and the happiest group I have ever worked with.”

“Rachel’s career background, and education, was in planning. Her long-term career goal was always to be a planning director,” Stanton pointed out.
