Shawsheen Rams-Bedford High School Co-op Girls Ice Hockey Team

February 10, 2021

The girls’ Shawsheen Rams-BHS co-op team played on Feb. 3 against Malden Catholic and on Feb. 8 against Arlington High School.

The Malden Catholic game was played at Janas Memorial Skating Rink in Lowell, starting the night off with a senior night celebration of Emily Sartori, one of the team’s two captains.

Despite a first period chock-full of scoring opportunities and amazing shots from the Rams, the period closed with Malden Catholic ahead by one after a goal with 21 seconds left.

In the second period, an early penalty on the Rams was effectively killed off. About halfway in, Shawsheen Tech sophomore Caitlin Aprile scored from the point for her first high school goal, tying the game. However, Malden Catholic scored with 2:07 to go in the period to pull ahead once more as the teams headed into the third period.

In the final period of the game, Malden Catholic scored a goal early and ensured their lead with a fourth goal 8:37 before the end of the game. Even so, Shawsheen Tech freshman Paige Fuller landed her first high school goal with 2:15 left in the game, resulting in a final score of 4-2, with Malden Catholic walking away with the win.

Shawsheen played again on February 8th, 2021 at Ed Burns Arena in Arlington against Arlington high school.

Both teams played well and ended the first period tied with zeroes on the board. However, AHS pulled ahead with a two-goal lead the Rams wouldn’t be able to catch early in the second period.

The rest of the game passed without another goal, but good play on either side of the rink kept the game interesting.

Arlington high finished the game with a 2-0 win over the Rams.
