Town Historian Sharon McDonald brings Four Colonial Characters to Life for the Bedford Historical Society’s Feb. 28 Program

Bedford Town Historian Sharon McDonald

Bedford Town Historian Sharon McDonald will share tales about four 18th Century characters during the Bedford Historical Society’s next program, presented via Zoom at 2 pm on Sunday, February 28.

McDonald, the beloved former Bedford Free Public Library children’s librarian, has a well-developed knack for telling stories. Her unquenchable thirst for historic tidbits and talent for discerning fact from fiction gives her programs a special sparkle.

The Society’s February 28 guests will meet Joseph Penniman, a Bedford minister whose behavior got him fired; Jeremiah Blood, a thief whose target was not money or jewelry; and Jefferee Hartwell, a slave who fought the Battle of Bunker Hill on behalf of his owner and namesake. The program will also unravel the truth about rascally Miriam Fitch, more often known as the ‘Witch of the Shawsheen.’

The program meeting will be virtual, beginning at 2 pm via Zoom. Login information is available by emailing the Historical Society at [email protected]. The program is presented without charge. Early arrivals will be directed to a virtual waiting room until the meeting begins.
