Bedford is Among Nine Area Towns Hoping to Obtain Approval for Acton Vaccination Site

March 21, 2021
Heidi Porter, director of the town Health and Human Services Department, told the Board of Health Monday that nine area towns are trying to obtain state approval for a regional Covid-19 vaccination site at a former K-Mart store on Route 27 in Acton.

Acton officials are working to secure access agreements to the building, Porter said. They advised the state Department of Public Health that the only current vaccination site within that area is a CVS store in Maynard. She said a state map on potential destinations for Bedford residents included Woburn and Lowell General Hospital.

“We’re still going to pull for a second site,” she reported. They are eyeing a temporary structure on the Concord-Carlisle Regional High School campus that was used for a vaccination clinic serving the region’s first responders.

“We are in competition with at least two dozen regional proposals,” Porter noted, although the Acton building is the only one in this area.
