Letter to the Editor: Supporting Margot Fleischman for Select Board

March 5, 2021

Submitted Emily Prince

I am pleased to support Margot Fleischman for Select Board in Bedford’s 2021 Town Election.  I first met Margot nearly three years ago when we both served on the Town Manager Search Screening Committee.  As a new resident and local government novice, I was touched by Margot’s warm welcome to me.  She personally reached out and took the time to get to know me, as well as share her experience serving Bedford.  During our first conversation, Margot’s passion for the community, extensive institutional knowledge, strong network and sincere desire for Bedford to be a thriving, sustainable, inclusive place for all residents was clear.  Her energy was inspiring, and I looked forward to working with her on Town initiatives.

For the past two years, I have had the pleasure of working with Margot as a member of the Energy & Sustainability Committee.  Margot is a steadfast supporter of Bedford’s net zero goals and understands the urgency of addressing the global climate crisis through transitioning to renewable energy sources and increasing sustainable transportation options through better access to public transportation and bike paths for residents.  In 2019, Margot and I participated in the Net Zero Advisory Council, which was charged with developing a long-term plan for reducing carbon emissions from commercial, residential and municipal buildings to make Bedford a more sustainable, resilient community.  The Council consisted of a consortium of stakeholders including town employees, commercial landlords, developers, real estate agents, businesses and residents, each of whom had different objectives and priorities shaping their views.   During the process, Margot was dedicated to understanding divergent viewpoints and acknowledging concerns posed.  She was rational, thoughtful and committed to finding solutions that were reasonable to all stakeholders.

Margot’s collaborative, diplomatic and approachable nature, coupled with her comprehensive understanding of how Bedford operates make her an excellent candidate.  Bedford is fortunate to have Margot working tirelessly on its behalf.  I encourage you to join me in voting for Margot on March 13 so she can continue to serve our community.
