A 33-year-old Bedford man was arrested at York, ME on Friday afternoon and subsequently charged with murdering his domestic partner.
Jeffrey Buchannan was taken into custody at Short Sands Beach around 4 p.m. He has been accused of beating to death Rhonda Pattelena, 35. Buchannan is being held without bail in York County Jail.
Bedford Police Chief Robert Bongiorno said Saturday that there are three children in the household, two of them in the public schools.
The chief said his department is working with school officials to ensure that family members have access to all emergency resources. He said extended family members do not reside in Bedford.
“We want to make sure the family gets services immediately and for the long term,” Bongiorno stated. He referenced “wraparound: services,” which means a coordinated effort to support the children in all aspects of their lives.
“Domestic violence doesn’t recognize town boundaries,” the chief stressed.
