The Wayland Warriors blasted to a 23-0 first-quarter lead and coasted to a 38-7 football win over the Bedford Buccaneers Friday evening.
After the offensive onslaught, which was abetted by great field position on a couple of Bedford punts, the Buc defense settled down and shut Wayland out for the second and third quarters. Wayland was credited with a two-point safety on a bad Bedford snap that went out of the endzone.
Leading 25-7, the Warriors scored two TDs in the fourth period to seal the win.
The lone Bedford touchdown was scored by senior Zackery Poor on a five-yard run with 4:41 remaining in the third quarter, culminating Bedford’s only sustained drive of the night. Sophomore Nick Tatarczuk added the extra point.
Next Friday Bedford entertains Malden Catholic in a non-league game.
