An Obituary: Robert Mead

April 6, 2021

Robert Mead, a longtime resident of Bedford, passed away on March 31, 2021.  A proud Bedford resident, Mr. Mead was honored as the town’s Citizen of the Year in 2006. He served as co-chair of the VA Hospital Surplus Land Advisory Committee in the late 1960’s and was instrumental in the development of Springs Brook Park.  He was involved in the planning and building of the Bedford American Legion Hall. A founding member of the Rotary Club of Bedford in 1956, Mr. Meade was the club’s president from 1962-1963, helped create the 9/11 memorial along the road into Springs Brook Park, and was twice named Rotarian of the Year.

Mr. Mead founded Mead Brothers Tree Service in 1946—the business is still family-owned and -operated. Professionally, he was a founding member of the Massachusetts Arborists Association (president 1984-1987), Massachusetts Tree Wardens and Foresters, and a founding member of the Massachusetts Horticultural Congress.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no public service. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
