Be an Informed Voter ~ Events and Materials to Help You Prepare for Annual Town Meeting

The League of Women Voters of Bedford encourages voters to begin preparing for Annual Town Meeting to be held on Saturday, May 15. Two events—Town Meeting:  Making Your Voice Heard and The LWV of Bedford Warrant Review—the actual meeting warrant, and articles published in The Bedford Citizen over the next two week are ready to help.

Town Meeting:  Making Your Voice Heard
Wednesday, April 28 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. via Zoom

The forum, sponsored by The Bedford Citizen, will focus on the structure of the Town Meeting, not specific articles on the warrant.

  • Cathy Cordes and Betsey Anderson, Bedford’s recent moderators who will discuss the organization of the warrant and the moderator’s role
  • Margot Fleischman, Select Board Chair, will  discuss the preparation of the warrant and the special challenges of Covid safety issues.
  • Finance Committee members will talk about the development of the FY ’22 budget and
  • Ann Caron and Heather Leavell will discuss the process followed to include the renaming of Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day on this year’s warrant.

The LWV of Bedford Warrant Review
Tuesday, May 5 at 6:00 p.m. via Bedford TV livestream

The review will cover three topics:

  • The financial state of the town,
  • The three major zoning bylaw changes (ADU, Assisted Living Overlay District, and Site Requirements) and
  • The most important bylaw changes in anticipation of the May 15 Annual Town Meeting.

Presenters will include Stephen Carluccio and Karen Dunn from the Finance Committee, Tony Battaglia from the Capital Expenditures Committee, Jan Shepard from the Bylaw Review Committee, and  Shawn Hanegan from the Planning Board.

Each of the presenters will provide background information and answer questions in a moderated forum.  Bedford TV will broadcast the event live at https://youtu.be/iqqitwUJLf0 and it will also be available on the Bedford TV website the next day.

Bedford’s Annual Town Meeting Warrantwill be mailed to each Bedford household before Town Meeting.  It is already available on-line at https://bedfordma.gov/town-manager/town-meeting/pages/2021-annual-town-meeting-presentations-and-background-materials.  This page also includes links to presentations that will be made at Town Meeting.

Town Meeting will be held on May 1
5 on Sabourin Field.  The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m.
