The School Committee Tuesday voted unanimously to begin the 2021-22 academic year on Wednesday, Sept. 1 in Bedford.

Committee members acknowledged that it is unusual for the town to begin school before Labor Day, which will be on Sept. 6. But they noted that Sept. 7 and 8 are Rosh Hashanah, the start of the High Holy Days.
School Superintendent Philip Conrad said Friday, Sept. 3 will not be a school day, so Labor Day will be part of a four-day weekend.
