“Thank you for the gift you gave this world,” declared one of the mourners gathered at Ellis Park on Short Sands Beach in York, Maine to honor and remember Rhonda Pattelena’s life, ended a week earlier by an act of domestic violence.
The memorial was organized by Rhonda’s friends and family, and live-streamed by Caring Unlimited, a domestic violence support network for York County.
In Bedford, nearly 40 local residents participated in the service remotely as dusk deepened and the air chilled to an unseasonable 32 degrees on the Common.
Both services ended with church bells tolling 35 times, once for each year of Rhonda’s life.
