Sarah Sjostrom, R.N., of Bedford, was recognized in the Boston Globe’s annual “Salute to Nurses,” for her exemplary work as Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center at NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham.

Hebrew Rehabilitation Center offers long-term chronic care, post-acute rehabilitation, and outpatient services to seniors.

Sjostrom was nominated by her colleague Mary K. Moscato, FACHE, President of Hebrew SeniorLife Health Care Services at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center. In her “Salute to Nurses” nomination for Sjostrom, Moscato said, “Sarah gets my vote for her outstanding commitment to leading her staff, her patients, and their families through those difficult days.”

According to Moscato, “Sarah moved out of her home for five to six weeks this past year and stayed in a cottage on our NewBridge campus in order to provide 24-hour/7 days per week coverage during the height of the pandemic. She left her three children in her mother’s care and saw them only via Zoom. Admittedly she was very concerned for her family as well due to her front-line work with COVID-19 patients.”

Additionally, Moscato noted, “Due to Sarah’s intense onsite coverage and under her close clinical leadership, Hebrew Rehabilitation Center at NewBridge turned the corner quickly to contain the spread and to see a quick recovery. Sarah served as a role model for all the staff, providing education, guidance, and comfort during this stressful and uncharted time. She was able to reach many of the families and manage their fears and anxieties.”
