Rina K. Spence, former president and chief executive of Emerson Hospital, Bedford’s community hospital, passed away on June 10, 2021.
Ms. Spence began her career as an educator, then pivoted to healthcare administration where she was known as a personally involved leader. She guided Emerson Hospital from a financial deficit to a surplus at a time when managed care replaced traditional medical practice. After leaving Emerson, she opened Spence Centers for Women’s Health where traditional and non-traditional therapies were combined in a single institution.
A private burial service was held. A public memorial gathering will be announced.
