The Bedford High School girls’ lacrosse team will continue its magical 2021 interscholastic season to a rarefied atmosphere: a berth in the MIAA Division 2 East sectional finals Saturday.
The intrepid Bucs dispatched Holliston High, 17-10, in the tourney semifinals on Sabourin Field Wednesday night before hundreds of fans, securing their first opportunity to play one game for an MIAA post-season tournament trophy.
The opponent will not be easy. Top-seeded Dover-Sherborn, the loser of only one of 16 games, was entertaining fourth-seeded Medfield Wednesday night. Both teams are seeded higher than BHS, so the game will be on the road.
Holliston ran onto Sabourin Field Wednesday as a Cinderella story, but still an underdog. In two previous tournament games, Holliston had allowed only nine total goals in two upset wins.
But this was the semifinals, and Bedford led 5-2 after the first quarter, with the fifth goal coming with two seconds on the clock. The score at the half was 11-5.
