The Bedford Youth Lacrosse Buccaneers Boys 7/8 Select Lacrosse team hosted the Bedford, NH Cannons in the first annual “Battle of Bedford” at Sabourin Field on Wednesday, June 9.

The Buccaneers played a strong game led by the stout defense of Finn Harrington, Kyle Mara, Jackson Masters, and Logan McGinness.   Jackson Masters powered the clear running downfield like a monster truck without brakes.

The faceoff and ground ball game went to the Buccaneers due to fast and aggressive play by LSM Matt Tonini and fellow Midfielders James Nichol, John Mara, Aidan Monahan, Grady Culhane, and James Lorusso.

Midfielder Andy Scoville earned the nickname, The Magician, with a fake and pass that he made leading to a Bedford score.  Attackman Logan Skipper made a nifty swim dodge to best his defender and dished to teammate, Jackson Tucker, who finished the play with a strong rip past the Cannons goalie.

Fellow Attackmen Charlie O’Brien and Charlie Siciliano kept the ball moving in the offensive zone, creating scoring opportunities throughout the game.

Seven players (J. Mara, Masters, Nichol, O’Brien, Siciliano, Skipper, Tucker) scored goals for the Buccaneers who finished with a total of 13 compared to 4 for the Cannons.

The victory came without the following key team members Charles Demeo, Wyatt Langway, Colby Mara, Lucas Morvillo, and Alex Quinn who were unable to play.

Given the fun and sportsmanship, both the Bucs and the Cannons are already talking of both boys and girls teams and more age groups participating in future Battles of Bedford.
