David William Packer passed away on July 8, 2021. Mr. Packer came to MIT and the Sloan School from the Midwest and never looked back. A long-time Bedford resident, he and his family spent three years in Switzerland, helping to establish the Digital Equipment Company European headquarters. After a celebrated career with DEC, Mr. Packer established the Systems Thinking Collaborative, a small consulting partnership focused on systems thinking and system dynamics, continuing the work of his mentor and friend Professor Jay Forrester. His interest in travel and world affairs led to his family hosting American Friends Service Committee exchange students from Mexico, Ecuador, and Russia; sponsoring Laotian families; and a peacemaking journey to Israel and Palestine in 2007. Finding Joy: A Life Explored, Mr. Packer’s memoir, tells the tale of his life with trademark dry humor, insight, and reflection.
A Celebration of Life service will be held this fall.
