Health Department Seeks Return of Borrowed Medical Appliances

July 17, 2021

The Health Department asks residents who borrowed medical devices before the onset of the pandemic to return them.

“We don’t have a lot of inventory at the moment,” Danielle Williams, department administrative assistant, told the Board of Health last week. She is particularly hoping for the return of raised toilet seats, commodes, and shower chairs – there are 12 of those outstanding.

“We have plenty of canes, walkers, and crutches,” she reported. The inventory of wheelchairs is handled by the Council on Aging.

For many years the department has loaned appliances to residents at no charge to assist their recovery from illness or injury. “We probably do between 40 and 60 a year,” Heidi Porter, director of health and human services, told the Board of Health at its virtual meeting last week. “We don’t limit folks on the amount of time.”

Residents can return the items to the Health Department in the Town Center during normal business hours. (Town offices are open until 6 p.m. on Mondays and close at 2 p.m. on Fridays.)
