Middlesex White U-12s Wallop Lexington, 18-9

July 20, 2021

Yogi Berra is the author of the immortal declaration, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”

For the Bedford Middlesex White team in the 12-and-under intertown Babe Ruth summer baseball league, the message Monday night was: It ain’t over after a shaky first inning.

Lexington jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Bedford team even got off the field in the first inning.

But after two full frames, Bedford had the lead, 9-8. And over the rest of the six-inning contest,  the home team outscored Lexington 9-1 for a final score of 18-9.

Key hits in the second-inning Bedford uprising were long doubles by Ryan Nelson and Brennan Comeau. Nelson also ripped a three-base hit and totaled three runs batted in for the game.

Lexington’s biggest threat came in the top of the fifth. But Sanders Bertos made an over-the-shoulder catch on a bases-loaded blast to register the third out.

Henrik Muelhoefer, Jack Allen, and Comeau equally divided the six innings on the mound. Only three of Lexington’s runs were earned.

One interesting statistic was stolen bases: Bedford totaled 24, led by Allen’s seven. Lexington had one.
