The Recreation Department invites the community to celebrate the post-quarantine return of the summer concert series Thursday with an unmistakable sound of joy.
The Party Band, described as “dynamic,” “raucous,” and “unadulterated fun,” will take the stage at 7 p.m. facing the field space just north of Town Center. Admission is free.
Originating in Lowell, the Party Band is a troupe of as many as 20 brass and percussion musicians. “Their goal is to bring people together through the joys of quality music in a way that is accessible to everyone,” according to one online description. The band says it plays “a mix of original music inspired by sounds of Planet Earth.”
For the past eight years, the Party Band has played the widest range of venues – community events, weddings, clubs, protests, festivals. Two years ago, promoting a performance at the Museum of Fine Arts, the band was described as breaking “the barrier between performer and audience.”
Also on the scene Thursday – particularly for kids and adults who feel like kids– will be a trackless train, featuring a locomotive and three passenger cars equipped with seatbelts. The train can travel on any level surface.
The concert series will continue on July 29 and Aug. 5 and 12.
