Bedford Junior Babe Ruth Team Ends Season with a 9-3 Record

August 5, 2021

The Bedford Junior Babe Ruth team came into the final week of the season looking to bounce back. They had dropped two in a row and needed to end the skid.

Monday night they hosted Waltham at BHS, a team they had previously beaten in a close game. The Bucs set the tone right away with a 1,2,3 inning on defense. The offense followed with a combination of hits and walks that netted the home team 5 runs. They added single runs in all the remaining innings except the 4th.

Anderson Marino started and pitched 4 solid innings, giving up one run. Oren Brosgol threw 2 scoreless innings in relief, and then Joe Kaiser closed the game by striking out the side in the 7th. Final tally was 9 – 1

Tuesday night the team was back at BHS, hosting Watertown. The bats were hot again, as the team batted around in each of the three innings where they came to the plate. Isaiah Triplett led the way with 5 RBI’s, while four players (Oren Brosgol, Alex Colangelo, Henry Lewis and Jacob Hollingsworth) all scored 3 times.

Isaiah and Henry split the pitching duties, going 2 innings each. Lewis got out of a jam in the 4th with 2 on and no one out when the two opposing baserunners ran into outs at third base on the same play. The final after 4 innings was 19 -3.

Wednesday the Bucs hosted Arlington at JGMS for the final game of the regular season. They scored 4 in the first and added three more over the next 2 innings to go up 7 to 3 after three innings. Arlington was not going to go down without a fight, however, putting up 6 runs in the 4th to take a two-run lead.

The cloudy skies were robbing daylight and the radar showed a line of rain to the south. The home team needed to respond quickly if they were going to win. They combined some timely hitting, plate discipline and aggressive baserunning to put up 7 runs and never looked back, winning 14 – 9.

Hayden McAllister and Zach Wirth each went 3 for 3, and Hayden drove in 4 runs. Miles Trant, Joe Kaiser, Jacob Hollingsworth, and Oren Brosgol split the pitching duties.

The team celebrated a 9 – 3 record and the end of the regular season at Bedford Farms and looks forward to playoffs starting the week of August 9.
