Bedford’s Social Work Team Serves All Ages in the Community

~ Submitted by Danika Castle, Social Worker at the Council on Aging

Hello and Happy Fall!

As the Social Work team here in Bedford continues to grow, I thought it might be a great time to update you on those changes and remind everyone of what our social service team can offer.

We now have three Social Workers working for the Town to better serve residents of all ages. While most seniors would likely access me for any social service needs, it might be helpful to know the other two social workers as well. If you know someone in a different age group that could benefit from the assistance of myself or one of the two other social workers, you should feel free to refer them accordingly.

  • Danika Castle, LICSW- serves residents ages 60+ (781-275-6825)
  • Christopher Bang, LICSW- serves residents ages 18-59 (781-918-4328)
  • Mackenzie Comeau, MSW (our newest hire)- serves residents under 18 and their families (781-981-4331)

You may wonder what a social worker can do for you. My first suggestion is, even if you are not sure if we can help, always ask.

While we may not have the answer immediately, we will always do our best to find one. We can help assess your situation and needs and then provide information and referral to resources and services to best meet those needs.

We can provide these services to you by phone, visits in the office, or by visiting you at your home.

Some of the services/resources we can help connect you to include—but are not limited to—food, housing, financial, transportation, mental and physical health care, home care, safety, employment, and legal issues.

We are here to provide a supportive environment where you can feel comfortable talking with us to seek the care you need.

Bedford’s Social Work Intern Program

Bedford’s Social Work Intern program continues to grow. We are excitedly welcoming back not only one, but two interns this year.

I would like to introduce you all to our newest Social Work interns, Izabelle Dick and Kati Cheung.

Izabelle and Kati will both be with us for about 8 months, until May 2022. As with our previous intern, they will be working with both the Council on Aging and Youth & Family Departments.

Izabelle will be here on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays and Kati will be here on Mondays and Tuesdays. Please stop into the COA to say hello to them.

We are excited to continue our Social Work intern program and welcome them both as they learn not only about their Social Work role but also about all of you and the Town of Bedford. Please read more about each of them below.

Alongside attending classes and interning with Bedford Health and Human Services, I am a part-time associate at Hobby Lobby. In my free time, I enjoy going to church, playing volleyball, and reading fiction. I have a passion for global social work which was confirmed when I did internships in South Africa and Ethiopia after completing my undergraduate degree.

Hi, I am Izabelle Dick and I am studying for my Masters in Social Work at Simmons University. I graduated this past spring cum laude with a Criminal Justice major and Psychology, Sociology, and Social Work minors from Marist College.

When I am not at school or work I enjoy spending time with friends and family, golfing, playing rugby, going on walks, and ……. I have been skydiving, and bungee jumping in New Zealand. I have been focused on building collaborative relationships through athletics, volunteer work, and internships. My focus areas have been on youth education and development, community and family support resources, family and child services, and law enforcement.  I look forward to working in the various areas of social work and supporting those who most need an advocate and access to crucial resources in support of their wellbeing and quality of life.

The Council on Aging is Open

Our doors are open and we look forward to seeing you all. Come visit us at the COA to socialize, get some exercise, play some games and say hello to us.
