The Bedford Fire Department will culminate national Fire Prevention Week Saturday with the annual open house at the fire station, 55 The Great Road, between noon and 3 p.m.

Everyone is welcome, and there’s a special focus on children and families. The agenda features a pumpkin-decorating event and an opportunity to help wash fire engines outdoors.

“Pizza and drinks are back on the menu,” said Capt. John Daniels, fire prevention officer, noted that a year ago the “open house” was a virtual event.

“We will be giving away some literature from the state fire marshal’s office. This year’s theme is, ‘Learn the Sounds of Safety,’” Daniels said.

The captain is coordinating the event with Firefighter Dana Park, the department’s SAFE (Student Awareness of Fire Education) officer, who is a familiar face in many classrooms, where he presents safety programs.

“We’re happy to invite everybody back,” Daniels said. Visitors will have opportunities to meet firefighters and pose for photos with the apparatus.
