October 16, 2021

There has been a lot of news about the “Great Resignation” recently.

From April to August 2021 more than 4.2 million people quit their job.  The trend continues with another survey finding nearly three-quarters of workers are actively thinking about quitting their job

The reasons vary, from feeling unsafe at work; to being overworked and unappreciated; to bad customer behavior; to a reassessment about what is important.

A recent PBS Newshour story did a good job of explaining the “Why?”

Unfortunately your quit numbers are more positive than reality. You state that 4.2 million people quit between April and August. Actually the number for August alone was 4.3 million and the total for April through August is 19.8 million people quit their jobs. Without going into the reasons for these record levels of voluntary separation, the numbers are staggering as the more complete numbers from the BLS demonstrate.
