The Bedford High School boys’ cross-country team has qualified for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 state meet Saturday. The race will start at 11:30 a.m. on the 700-acre campus of the Wrentham Developmental Center.
Coach Richard Donnelly’s team punched its ticket to the finals last Saturday with a sixth-place finish in the Division 2B tournament in Gardner. The top seven teams qualify, along with the first 20 finishers who are not part of those teams.
The BHS girls finished 12th out of 23 teams in their divisional meet.
The boys were led by two sophomores. John Garraway finished 12th with a time of 17 minutes, 33 seconds. Carter Rauch was 31st, in 18:17.
The other scorers were senior Jay Schwartz, 40th; junior Joshua Garraway, 87th; and junior Peter Benson, 96th. The cumulative score of 266 was well within the window to move onto the finals.
Junior Lulu Steele was the top finisher among the girls at 54, Grace Niu, a freshman, was 74th. The other three finishers, junior Coco Steele, sophomore Farrah Scott, and senior Maddie O’Neil were bunched at 90th, 91st, and 93rd respectively.
