The Bedford High School Buccaneers will travel to Tewksbury Memorial High School’s state-of-the-art Doucette Stadium for the opening round of the 16-team Division 4 statewide tournament Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The match will be the biggest challenge of the season for the 7-1 Buccaneers, but the good news is they don’t have to travel very far.
Bedford finished 14th in the Division 4 MIAA power rankings, which would have meant a bus ride to third-seed Foxborough High. But two teams ahead of the Bucs were dropped from the rankings because neither had the requisite minimum three wins.
Tewksbury is 6-2, with all the victories sandwiched between losses to Danvers and Andover. The Redmen have a long and successful football tradition, mostly in Division 3.
Bedford hasn’t lost since the second game of the season and is undefeated away from home.
As of 5 p.m. Monday, pairings for soccer, field hockey, and volleyball had not been posted by the MIAA.
