“If we play to our potential, we are very dominant, and it is going to be hard for teams to stop us.”
Bedford High School secured its spot in the state Division 3 volleyball quarterfinals late Tuesday afternoon with a hard-fought 3-0 triumph over North Middlesex of Townsend.
The Bucs will play the winner of Cardinal Spellman or Fairhaven. The match will be in Brockton if Spellman seeded third, is victorious. If Fairhaven pulls off the upset, the match will be in the BHS gym. Editor’s Note: Bedford will travel to Cardinal Spellman in Brockton to play in the Division 3 quarterfinals. Time/date TBD
Coach Lisa Predaina’s Bucs took an early lead in the first set against North Middlesex and held off the Patriots, 25-19.
The second set was a classic, with neither team able to move ahead by more than a point from an 8-8 score until North Middlesex grabbed a 23-20 advantage. After a timeout, Bedford fought back to tie and eventually won by the requisite two, 27-25.
The Patriots continued to battle for much of the third game, and at one point Bedford trailed 10-9. Then the visitors ran out of gas. Bedford led by as many as 10 en route to a 25-16 final to clinch the best-of-five.
