BHS Volleyball Season Ends Abruptly with Dennis-Yarmouth’s 3-2 Win

November 17, 2021

The Bedford High School Buccaneers’ drive toward a Division 3 state volleyball championship came to an abrupt end Wednesday evening in southeastern Massachusetts.

Coach Lisa Predaina’s state semifinalists fell to Dennis-Yarmouth, 3-1, in a match played at a neutral site, Dartmouth High School.

The D-Y Dolphins, seeded second in the power rankings, took a 2-0 lead on the sixth-ranked Bucs. Bedford, which last week eliminated third-ranked Cardinal Spellman, took control of the third set and held the Dolphins off for a 25-23 win, the first time the Dolphins lost in the post-season.

Dennis -Yarmouth then took control to win the third and deciding set.

It became an all-south final, when Old Rochester defeated top-ranked Tewksbury, 3-2, on Tuesday.

The 2021 volleyball season marked the first time a BHS women’s team played in a state semifinal since the 1990 softball team. The 2021 lacrosse team won its sectionals but there was no state tournament because of the pandemic.
