Community Choice Aggregation is a Win ~ Even 100% Renewable Energy is a Bargain

November 26, 2021

Every option under the town’s community choice aggregation electricity supply program will be less expensive than that offered by Eversource – at least for the next six months.

Town Manager Sarah Stanton delivered that report to the Select Board at its virtual meeting Monday. She stressed that even the option of using 100 percent renewable energy is a less expensive choice.

Community choice aggregation provides residents and businesses with several electricity supply options, all from renewable sources, by pooling the electricity use of local users.

The program is an alternative to Eversource’s default supply and other third-party electricity suppliers. Community choice aggregation does not replace Eversource for the delivery of electricity, equipment repairs, or billing.

Stanton said the program recently was extended for three years. “Residents and businesses don’t have to do anything to continue,” she said. There is a procedure with which participants can opt out.

The Energy and Sustainability Committee has scheduled a virtual community meeting on community choice aggregation for Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m. The Zoom link is us02web.zoom.us/j/81341022111.

The new electricity rates automatically take effect as of December meter read dates. Participants will see the new rate for their current product reflected in the “supply services” portion of the bills received after December.
