The championship quest continues this week for two Bedford High School interscholastic sports teams.
Volleyball entertains North Middlesex Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the Bedford High School gymnasium. The Buccaneers dispatched Bishop Stang last week, 3-0, and expect a tougher challenge in the second round. The winner moves to the Division 3 state quarterfinals.
Football, which is already in the Division 4 quarterfinals because only 16 teams qualified, travels to Grafton Friday at 7 p.m.
Bedford, 8-1, opened a lot of eyes last Friday with a 28-21 victory at Tewksbury. The team held the Merrimack Valley Conference power to 230 total yards. Grafton, 9-0, crushed every opponent this season except one. The Gators needed overtime to defeat Northbridge, 28-20. Northbridge happens to be the hometown of legendary former BHS Coach Armand Sabourin.
The BHS soccer team was eliminated from post-season play Saturday, losing 1-0 at Reading Memorial on a penalty kick with 12 minutes to play in regulation.
The field hockey team had a Cinderella season that ended in disappointment last Thursday with a 3-1 loss to western Massachusetts powerhouse Longmeadow, 3-1.
