Letter to the Editor: A Thank You to Whole Foods Market from the Bedford Garden Club

~ Submitted by Joanne Orlando on behalf of the Bedford Garden Club

The Bedford Garden Club recently received an extremely generous donation for its Scholarship Fund of $1,642.00 from Whole Foods Market. This donation was awarded through the Whole Foods Community Giving Program-North Atlantic Region, which gives to needy causes and to communities worldwide.

The Bedford Garden Club is especially appreciative of this donation because it helps to make up for lost fundraising revenues during the recent covid epidemic. Readers will remember that the Club traditionally holds a geranium, perennial and floral arrangement sale on the Saturday before Mother’s Day each year, in front of the DPW building.  Because of the coronavirus, this successful event had to be canceled for two years in a row.  As a result, the Whole Foods donation is greatly appreciated.

Since 1966 the Club has awarded one or two scholarships to Bedford students who plan careers in environmental sciences or engineering, climatology, conservation, land management, horticulture, or related fields. We hope to continue these awards in the future.

On behalf of all the members of the Bedford Garden Club, I would like to thank Whole Foods Market for its generosity and consideration for this donation. It makes a big difference to us. The Club also thanks Noah Solomon, Team Leader at our Bedford store, for helping us with the donation application process. Whole Foods Market has been a good neighbor to us and to the Town of Bedford.
