The schedule is set for the four Bedford High School interscholastic sports teams that have qualified for post-season state single-elimination playoffs.

Well, almost.

Coach Lisa Predaina’s volleyball team, slotted sixth in the MIAA Division 3 rankings, will have to wait and learn the outcome of Wednesday’s preliminary game between Bishop Stang of North Dartmouth and O’Bryant of Boston.

The winner will travel to the BHS gymnasium, perhaps as soon as Thursday.

The other three contests are all away from home, and all have been scheduled:

  • Field hockey, ranked 25th in Division 2, will face eighth-seeded Longmeadow Thursday at 4. The game will take place at Holyoke High School.
  • The Division 4 football team, ranked 12th, travels to Tewksbury Memorial’s Doucette Field to face the fifth-seeded Redmen Friday at 7.
  • The boys’ soccer team, ranked 23rd in Division 2, visits the 10th seed, Reading Memorial High. UPDATE: The game will begin at 2:30 pm.

This is the first time the statewide format has been used, with seedings based on a complex mathematical system called power rankings that includes strength of schedule as well as victories in placement.

Thus the volleyball team, for example, is ranked sixth with a 12-8 record, competing in the tough, balanced Dual County League. Montachusett Vocational, at 15-4, is 25th.
