Bedford Common Tree Lighting ~ 5 pm SATURDAY

December 4, 2021

UPDATE 12/6/2021: The Citizen is still sifting through photographs submitted by our readers, so if you have something to share, please forward it to [email protected] by noon on Tuesday, December 7.

Bedford’s iconic winter event, its annual Tree Lighting, will take place this afternoon—Saturday, December 4, at 5 pm— when all attention focuses on the Common.

Citizens of the Year Lois and Brown Pulliam will tap the switch that illuminates thousands of lights in the trees around Bedford Common. Once the lights begin to twinkle, a well-known visitor from the far north will arrive to greet children of all ages. Protocols will be in place to assure safe photo opportunities.

Carrying the afternoon’s light forward, the Rotary Club of Bedford will be at the firehouse shortly after 4 pm, distributing personal lights to support safe cycling and walking in the winter’s darkness. The lights will be distributed without charge thanks to the Bedford Rotary Foundation.

At 4 pm, Suzanne & Company will welcome Frosty the Snowman and a brass band to a festive scene at the corner of Springs Road and The Great Road. There will be sweets from Bedford Cupcakes for the kids and adult beverages available for purchase from The Beer Mobile.

And, the Bedford Chamber of Commerce reports that photographs of Santa and Mrs. Claus will be taken at Barrett-Sotheby’s office on The Great Road, from 4 to 6 pm.
