I am pleased to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Bedford School Committee. It has been my honor to serve on the School Committee since 2019, as the Vice-Chair this past year and as Secretary the previous year.

I am the proud father of a 16-year-old sophomore at Bedford High School.  My wife and I have been residents of Bedford for 18 years, and our son has progressed through all four of our public schools.

Three principles have guided my consideration of matters that come before the Bedford School Committee.  First, we should do what is right for every one of our students.  The mission of our schools is to help our students learn and grow in order to be the best they can be.  Through these several years of serving the people of Bedford, it has become even clearer to me that every student is a unique individual. I am proud of how hard the teachers and staff in the Bedford School district work to provide for the different and varied needs of our diverse student population. The School Committee should support these efforts as best we can.

The second principle is that there is much more to education than just book knowledge.  Our schools are helping children grow up to be responsible members of society.  In addition to academics, we should support programming that provides opportunities in the arts, athletics, language skills, class trips, a wide range of extracurricular activities, and the many other options available to our children in order to help them develop into well-rounded citizens that can make a positive impact on our society.

The third principle that helps guide my role on the School Committee, and one I remind myself of quite often, is that listening is the most important part of the job.  We need to listen to parents throughout our great town to understand multiple points of view.  We need to listen to the teachers and staff in our district to gain the benefit of their training, expertise, and experience.  We need to listen to experts from various fields who can help inform our decisions.  Lastly, we need to listen to our students; they have more at stake than any of us.

I humbly ask for your vote on January 4 at Town Caucus, and again on March 12 for re-election at the Town Election.
