Town Distributes 1000 + Covid-19 Test Kits; More on the Way

January 22, 2022

Town government has handed out 1,080 free self-administered Covid-19 tests. And the hope is that hundreds more are on the way.

But no further distribution will be scheduled until the kits are in hand.

Town Manager Sarah Stanton said this week the test kit recipients were elderly and homebound residents, consumers at the food bank, and residents of Bedford Housing Authority units and Bedford Green.

Tests also were received by several town employees to ensure “continuity of operations,” she said.

Almost a month ago, trying to get a jump on demand, town officials placed an order for 6,000 tests. Stanton said 2,000 ended up canceled and the shipping date for others is still uncertain.

“We are now hoping to order up to 7,000,” Stanton said, but it depends on availability from vendors.

Stanton reported on the tests at Tuesday’s Select Board virtual meeting. She noted that staff also handed out Covid-19 information sheets prepared by the Department of Health and Human Services.
