UPDATED: Water Shutoff on Middlesex Turnpike as DPW Repairs Leak

January 18, 2022

UPDATE: The repairs were completed shortly after 12 pm on Wednesday.

Water service will be suspended on part of Middlesex Turnpike beginning at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday as a crew from the Department of Public Works Water Division repairs a leaking 10-inch conduit.

The leak is in the area just south of 160 Middlesex – F.W. Webb Co.. – and businesses and residences north of that address to the Billerica line will be affected, including condominiums on Albion Road.

The work is expected to be finished by 4 p.m.

DPW Director David Manugian said the recent extreme cold weather may have been the cause of the fissure, but it won’t be ascertained until the pipe is excavated,

Manugian said steps were taken to scale back water loss, but water continues to flow out of the leak. He said the repair was timed to least inconvenience residents at the start of their day.

The leak was discovered by someone who spotted water emerging from the ground, near where construction works are widening the street. The break is not serious enough to cause a noticeable drop in pressure, Manugian said.
