March is coming and just like the swallows returning to Capistrano, the lawn signs for the local election have started to appear. 

So what’s it all about, who is running for what?

Contested Offices

Select Board ~ Two vacancies, four candidates

The Select Board consists of five members serving a three-year term.  There are two seats to be filled: Incumbent Emily Mitchell is running for a second term;  William Moonan is retiring so there is a vacancy on the board.

School Committee ~ Two vacancies, four candidates

The School Committee is made up of five members serving three-year terms.  Brad Morrison is the incumbent; the open seat is due to the retirement of JoAnn Santiago.

Board of Health ~ One vacancy, two candidates

The Board of Health is made up of 5 members serving three-year terms.  Incumbent Bea Brunkhorst is running for reelection: Allison O’Connell is challenging her for the seat.

Planning Board ~ Two vacancies, two candidates

The Planning  Board consists of five members serving a three-year term.  Amy Lloyd is running for reelection. Todd Crowley is running for the open seat that will be left vacant by Shawn Hanegan whose term expires and who is running for Select Board.

When is the Election?

Bedford’s annual election will take place on Saturday, March 12, 2022, in the gymnasium at John Glenn Middle School, 99 McMahon Road, Bedford.

How Do I Register to Vote?

To register to vote online, click https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr/ To mail in a voter registration card, please print and complete a voter card— voter-reg-mail-in.pdf —and return it to Town Clerk, 10 Mudge Way, Bedford, MA 01730. Additional voter cards may be picked up at the Town Clerk’s Office, Library, or Police Station. A citizen can register at Town Hall during normal business hours or at a voter registration session prior to the election, by mail, at the Registry of Motor Vehicles, or at a special registration session.

The last day to register to vote in the Town Election is Friday, February 18, 2022. The Town Clerk’s office will be open to register new voters from 9 am until 8 pm.
