Letter to the Editor: A Recommendation to Preserve the Dirt Path

March 24, 2022

~ Submitted by Laura Wallace

Before you vote Monday night on whether the Reformatory Branch Trail should be paved toward Concord (article 11), I urge you to go and walk on it.

Here are 3 easy ways to access it… You can park in the trailhead parking lot next to the Bedford Children’s Center (402 Concord Rd.), or you can park at the end of Lavender Lane or you can walk from the middle school on McMahon Rd. where the path starts behind the baseball field backstop.

In my opinion, paving will encourage higher-speed bikers to ride through our town and make it less safe for bikers and walkers.

I agree with the letter writer who said that running on pavement is unhealthy and that the youth runners of Bedford need different surfaces to run on.

There are very few dirt paths in Bedford and we need to preserve this one.
