In case you missed it we’re in the middle of the NCAA basketball tournament, euphemistically called March Madness. March Madness is big business. It is estimated that as many as 45 million people take part, betting as much as $3.1 billion this year. Betting on the tournament has always been big, but the recent legalization of sports betting has brought it out of the shadows.
Companies spend millions of dollars advertising in the tournament, with many bars and restaurants having their own local promotions. The tournament is not all good news for businesses as it is estimated that there are $13.8 billion in corporate losses due to unproductive workers during March Madness.
