Ask Aunt Laura – Packing Cubes for Travel

April 12, 2022

When traveling, I find it can be very frustrating when I need to find that one particular piece of clothing and, of course ,it is at the bottom of my suitcase.

In the process of finding it, I have now created a bit of a mess and my other clothes get disheveled and tossed around.

The best solution I’ve found is packing cubes. They are simply awesome.

Each cube will hold a particular ‘category’ of clothing, such as tees and shirts in one or shorts and leggings in another. Simply roll each article of clothing (which has the added bonus of reducing wrinkles!) and place it in the cube. Add other clothes for that ‘category’ to the cube and zip it up.

The cubes will easily and neatly stack in your suitcase or carry-on. When you get to your destination just open the cube that has the particular item you are looking for. How easy is that?! Not only will the other items in the cube stay nice and neat, but you won’t need to disturb any of your other clothing.

I purchased my packing cubes at TJMaxx for $12.99 (3 cubes and 3 bags). I have found them online for as much as $110. For now, $12.99 suits me just fine.

I discovered them a couple of years ago and couldn’t agree more. An added benefit is that you don’t have to unpack everything in the bureau drawers when you get to the hotel. Just plunk the loaded cubes in the drawers and you’re done. I went with the $12.99 models too and they’re excellent.

Perfect tip Myra! Isn’t it great when unpacking at your hotel takes just a minute?! :)
