Fertilizer is a “growing” problem for our natural water bodies, especially when not used properly.
Consider switching to slow-release, phosphorus-free fertilizers and be mindful when applying – read labels and never apply before a predicted rainstorm!
Fertilizers and pesticides wash off lawn areas and pollute rivers and streams, by contributing to algae growth and poor water quality.
Please also remember to never leave grass clippings or other yard debris on pavement or near a storm drain. This adds unwanted nutrients to water bodies and can also cause localized flooding.
