David Powell Resigns from Finance Committee ~ Creating Second Vacancy to be Filled

April 20, 2022

There are now two vacancies on the nine-member Finance Committee.

David Powell announced his resignation, effective immediately, at the close of the April 14 virtual committee meeting.

Powell, who has served for almost eight years, said one reason he is leaving is to seek other volunteer opportunities in town government.

The general bylaws prohibit Finance Committee members from serving on other boards or committees, except for “anybody considering the structure of Town government, including a Charter Commission, (or) any committee considering overall fiscal planning for the Town.”

Powell was a member of the Outdoor Recreation Area Study Committee in 2012.

The appointing authority for the Finance Committee comprises the chair of the committee, the moderator, and the Select Board chair.

Longtime member Thomas Busa retired several months ago, but the vacancy was not filled because the moderator position also was empty until Mark Siegenthaler was elected on March 12.

“I’ve really enjoyed and benefited from the experience,” Powell told his colleagues.

Several of them complimented Powell, including Elizabeth McClung, who praised him as “very professional, very detail-oriented. You keep an open mind, always hearing both sides of an issue, and you are never emotional or reactionary, always very thoughtful and deliberate.”

Karen Dunn complimented Powell for being “gracious,” and committee Chair Steven Carluccio said, “That’s a great way to describe Dave.”
