Earth Day ~ Town-wide Clean-up ~ Sunday, May 1, Noon to 4 pm

The second annual townwide cleanup, sponsored by Revise with support from municipal departments and volunteers, has been scheduled for Sunday, May 1, from noon to 4 p.m.

“Revise will work with the troops and others to select a minimum of six locations around town needing the most attention,” said Dan Carroll of Bedford, the firm’s chief operating officer.

The locations – from north to south – are Fawn Lake; the entire narrow gauge rail trail between the Billerica line and Loomis Street; and along Carlisle Road between the town compost center and North Road.

Also, both sides of Davis Road along the White Cedar Swamp and the boardwalk; the Hartwell Town Forest area near the Hartwell Road entrance; and the Shawsheen River banks next to the Great Road Shopping Center.

Volunteers will convene in the rear parking lot at John Glenn Middle School, where all will receive reflectorized safety vests and other items. “Everyone can return there at 4 p.m. and we will provide some food and gift cards from local restaurants to say thank you,” Carroll said.

Carroll said he already has commitments from several local groups, including Scout Troop 194. He said he hopes municipal and school employees will join the cleanup teams. To volunteer or answers to questions, write Carroll at [email protected].

Revise, the energy assessment business with an office on The Great Road, plans to supply some hand-held trash-grabbers as well as water for participants. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, though the sponsor will have some available.

Carroll said his company also will bring trucks to collect all trash bags around town at the end of the day.

He has asked town officials for the kind of support provided to last year’s cleanup: vests, trash bags, recyclable bags, and police cruisers to protect volunteers along the roadways.
