Last week was the Oscar awards. It was its usual uneventful awards ceremony. To paraphrase an old joke about a hockey game, “I went to a fight and an awards ceremony broke out.” Other than “the slap,” the awards were unusual in other ways as well.
Looking at the 10 nominated films for best picture, some were available exclusively on paid subscription streaming services. One’s ability to watch these nominated films was dependent on what subscriptions you were willing to pay for. Gone are the days of going to the theater to see the latest films. That changed because of Covid and it seems to have changed for good.
We have some streaming services, but still, we did not have a chance to view everything. In fact, we only saw 2 of the 10 nominated films.
