BHS Lacrosse Teams Register Mid-Season Wins

Both Bedford High School varsity lacrosse teams are moving into the second half of the season move into the second half of the season against some formidable Dual County League opponents.

The girls’ team, a strong second in the MIAA state power rankings, heads into its most challenging week of the campaign on the road against Boston Latin School Tuesday and at home Thursday at 4:40 p.m. vs. Lincoln-Sudbury. Both opponents are ranked in the top 10 statewide in Division 1.

The boys’ team plays two schools in the lower echelon of the Division 2 rankings: Boston Latin on Tuesday at 4 p.m. on Sabourin Field and at Woburn High School Saturday morning.

Coach Alan Chang’s Bedford laxmen broke a three-game losing streak with a convincing 13-7 win at Cambridge Rindge & Latin on Thursday. Juniors Eric Miles (four) and Rich Fedele (three) led the scoring, and Hugh Gilroy made 10 saves to secure the win.

The girls had a much easier afternoon on Sabourin Field. All 10 seniors registered at least one goal, all 10 took the draw at least once, and the team finished with a 19-2 win over Cambridge.’

Abby Morrissey scored her`100th career goal, and Meghan Tassanari started her first varsity game of the year and made three saves.

“Bench players saw significant playing time, notably Becca Kohler who helped run our midfield and took some draws,” said Coach Nicole Lespasio. “We pulled up several junior varsity girls,  who all saw playing time.”

Freshman Emma Dumbrovsky registered a goal and a draw control. Also contributing were junior Brooke Stuzynski, sophomores  Carolyn Salem, Anna McEachern, Gianna Ostiguy, and freshman Scarlett Evans.
