Members of the town’s Energy and Sustainability Committee are pleased with the response to their first “Cars & Coffee” electric vehicle fair last Saturday at the new dual-vehicle charging station at Depot Park.
And they are already talking about a similar event in the fall.
“We had a great showing of cars for people to look at,” said committee Chair Emily Prince at Thursday’s virtual committee meeting.
The Depot Park station is the 12th charging station to be installed in Bedford. Others are located at schools, the library, and Town Hall. At the committee meeting, Ron Scaltreto, assistant facilities director, said research is underway about installing a station at Job Lane School designed for people with disabilities.
Coffee & Cars was a showcase for a variety of electric vehicles — Tesla Model Y, Chevrolet Bolt, Volkswagen ID.4, Hyundai Kona, Tesla Model T, and Honda Clarity.
Also at the Depot Park event were “ambassadors” from the Green Energy Consumer Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people transition to clean renewable energy by offering information about clean heating, electric vehicles, solar energy, and other sustainable programs.
Looking ahead, “The Green Energy Consumer Alliance said they would do some webinars and in-person events,” Prince said. “They are a wonderful resource.”
