More Dunster Road Gossip and Shenanigans

~ Submitted by Meghan Stengel Gardner

The scoop is in on the Dunster Road Shenanigans!  Grab your coffee, settle in, and get ready for all the gossip you actually didn’t need on that sultry Saturday morning.

Above the fold? The House Wrens who are making quite the amorous racket. Mr. House Wren is trying to convince Ms. House Wren that the house that WE built for them is worthy of her. I mean, he did stuff it full of twigs and vaguely soft stuff. But I gotta I tell you… we’ve cleaned that house out at the end of each season and his interior decorating skills need work.

The band of Blue Jay brothers are dominating the morning with a wide array of vocals. I think they are feeling intimidated by the Pileated Woodpecker who has been visiting daily and making her impressive presence known wide and far. If she’s not calling, she’s drumming. And let me tell you, this gal could’ve given Keith Moon a few lessons.

Ms. PW, herself, has a spotty past. She was the instigator of a great deal of misinformation when there was a reported sighting of an Ivory Billed Woodpecker down south. She applied her morning makeup and made sure to show up within sight of just enough people who decided that, yes indeed, they had the rarest bird on the planet in their backyard. It caused quite the spectacle and a great many phone calls to the local press. Now she can’t shake the reputation of a spotlight hog.

The bouncers of the bird kingdom are back! Our hummingbird feeder is now the local watering hole for at least one Ruby Throated Hummingbird. I feel much better about the hierarchy of our backyard. She will make sure that things don’t get out of hand.

The Fish Crows are kind of subdued this morning. I heard through the warbler network that they were not particularly happy about being called “Fishies“ in my last update. So they are refusing all interview requests. Don’t tell them I said this but they can be such prima donnas.

BREAKING NEWS: Mr. House Wren and Ms. House Wren are in the house! I think his nonstop soprano staccato serenade has worked its sorcery on her. This might just be his love lucky day!

I think I’ll go inside, put on some romantic music, and leave the windows open….
