Bedford’s Baystate A Team Heads to State Tournament on July 1

This past week the Bedford Baystate A Team—players 12 years old and under—played in the Cal Ripken Tournament that took place in Marblehead. Their first game was against Medford, Bedford was led by Teddy Hollman with help from Greyson Kordelski pitched a shutout game. Teddy also hit a homerun. Bedford went on to win 12-0.

In the second round, Bedford played Belmont. Bedford was able to hold off a late rally by Belmont and won 10-9. Bedford’s offense was led by Gavin Waldron who drove in five runs, including two doubles and a home run. Kieran Heid and James Drolette contributed to the win with strong pitching. Bedford’s offense was further strengthened by Liam Sullivan, Liam Houde, and Will Gallant.

The third round had Bedford matched up with the other undefeated team Winchester. Winchester was able to stifle Bedford’s offense and hold Bedford to 1 run. Scout Correu had a strong outing on the mound keeping a powerful Winchester offense in check, and James Drolette pitched two innings of relief. The offense was led by Scout, James, and Jack Allen who all collected hits for the Bucs. Bedford came up short to Winchester 8-1.

The fourth round had Bedford in the losing bracket and matched up with Marblehead. Kieran Heid, James Drolette, and Greyson Kordelski all pitched in a collaborative effort holding Marblehead to three runs. Kieran and two hits in the game and Scout Correu scored the walk-off run in a thrilling 4-3 Bedford win.

The fifth round had Bedford facing Winchester again in a must-win two-game situation. In the first game, Gavin Waldron’s pitching held Winchester to three runs in three innings and he hit a home run. Gavin, Jack Allen, and Greyson Kordelski all had multiple hits in this game. Nick Brecher had seven putouts in the field at first base. Bedford was able to beat Winchester in game one 11-7.

This led to the final game of the district tournament, with Bedford playing Winchester again. This was a back and forth game with several lead changes between the two teams. Liam Sullivan led the Bucs with a home run in the first inning. Greyson Kordelski and Liam Houde both pitched well for Bedford. Scout Correu, Nick Brecher, and Liam Sullivan all had multiple hits in the game. However, Winchester was able to win it with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth inning winning 7-6.

Next up for the Bedford Baystate A Team is advancing to the State Tournament which is being hosted by Burlington starting July 1. Bedford looks to continue this momentum with a chance to advance in the tournament with a chance to represent New England in the Little League World Series.
